MORNING MESSAGE
March 10, 2021
by Gayle Gordon
Did you ever think you had your fingers on the pulse of an issue - that you knew the score - only to find our that you didn't have a clue? That, in fact, you believed a lie? It's a shock, sometimes, and in the case of the love our Savior has for us, it can be life-changing.
You thought you were recovering from being down and out, dragging the dregs of your old nature along with you. But Jesus says “You are the salt of the earth" in Matthew 5:13.
You are believing that you need to grow in God before you can truly serve Him well enough to bear fruit for the Kingdom. But Jesus says “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden" in Matthew 5:14.
Jesus knows the truth about your character and behavior before you came to Him. He has made you new - not just remodeled, improved or repurposed: new.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"
2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
What part of "gone" don't we understand? How is "passed away" unclear? Yet, Satan constantly pulls us to continue to self-identify with our old nature - the sins and bad habits and personality flaws we used to have.
When we become the children of God, He gives us a new nature; He changes our thinking, our opinions, and our self-reference to who we are and how we will be in our new lives. We have to let the past go completely. Re-read these words from The Word of God in flesh, Jesus Christ, and recognize yourself in how He sees you:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:3-10
You are, in Him, the salt of the earth: you are no longer sand. Don't surrender your savor.
You are the light if the world, as you follow Him; don't let the Light dim or be hidden. Let this gift from Jesus sink in:
"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
Luke 10:19-20
Accept and own this joy and power in the Holy Spirit. Walk with Him closely and refuse to receive anything of the old familiar nature that tugs at your memory. You are a new creation in Christ Jesus. Praise God!
