MORNING MESSAGE
March 13, 2021

by Gayle Gordon

In the chronology of Genesis,
Genesis 2:7 - "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,"
Genesis 2:8 - "The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed."
Genesis 2:15 - "Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden..."
Genesis 2:16-17 - "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 2:22 - "Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man."

Genesis 3:6 - "So when the woman saw that the tree was good...she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate."

Genesis 3:7 - "Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings."

Genesis 3:9,11,13 - "Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
“What is this you have done?”"

God reveals the curses sin has let loose on the serpent, the woman and the man. He pronounces that these curses will last "all the days of your life" - not of their individual lives, but in every individual ever born in the future. Snakes still slither; mankind still struggles. The nature God gave them of innocence and purity is destroyed in their folly.

There Adam and Eve stand, in their homemade fig leaves, full of shame and death now. Their sorrow had to have been so painful. They stood before Him Who created them in crushing and undeniable guilt. And at this moment, God gives hope;
Genesis 3:21 - "Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them."

We don't know what animal(s) had to be killed and skinned. We know it wasn't a snake. We know it offered a covering stronger and more durable than fig leaves, to protect against the elements. God was not covering their nakedness because it was embarrassing or disgusting to Him; He was covering them in loving protection. Life outside the Garden was going to be shockingly brutal.
Genesis 3:23-24 - "therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken."

Adam was driven out to till the dust. Man could have died out then and there, if God had not spoken hope. The salvation of Jesus Christ was set in motion; redemption, forgiveness and eternal life are available through Him today. There are those who will hear the call of God and respond in faith; there are those who hear and ignore that call, preferring to farm dust.

"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.
For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, shedding his blood."
Romans 3:23-25

God's hope remains to this day; Jesus is alive! Heed His call to your heart today - "Where are you?"
