MORNING MESSAGE
January 20, 2021

by Gayle Gordon

"Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
...
Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.”
...
"Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.”
Genesis 29:16,18, 21
...

So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he [Jacob] said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?”

[and Laban answered] "Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years.”
Genesis 29:21,25,27

Nothing makes me angry quicker than to be cheated. My first thought is to rise up in a fury and somehow force the cheater to make it right. Jacob is not recorded to have reacted like that;
"Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also."
(Genesis 29:28). Jacob lived the phrase 'it is what it is' and complied. The mark of maturity is Jacob's reaction to being cheated; complaining about it only prevents progress. He recognized that 'it is what it is.'

Jesus asked that the Father remove the cup from Him that would take Him through torture, a horrible death and separation from His Heavenly Father. That cup plunged Jesus into hell itself;
"(Now this, 'He ascended' —what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)" Ephesians 4:9-10

That cup was not removed; Jesus led captivity captive (He descended into hell and took out everyone who received Him - He emptied Satan's penitentiary.) Jesus received that His purpose was to save mankind; He saw the cross and understood 'it is what it is.'

As a result of Jacob's compliance, Joseph was born. Through Joseph, the entire nation of Israel was saved. Eventually, a young Jewish woman had a Son Who died and rose again in power to save all mankind. His obedience to His Father has given eternal life and sonship with God to billions of people.

We will face circumstances about which we have to accept; 'it is what it is'. That will give each of us a choice; do we struggle against it or face it in faith, knowing that our Abba Father is in control and doing something magnificent in us. He is with us every moment, and will help us minimize the frustrations, the rebellions and the pride we all have at times. Getting through situations we cannot change does not imply that we are in agreement with them; we are having a humble spirit developed within.

You may not be able to change things; you certainly cannot change people; you can pray! Abba Father is listening to your thoughts and hearing your prayers right now. Seek and pursue Him, in Whom you have your being. He will give you the strength you need. He will favor you with a joyful Spirit and all His riches are bestowed to you.
And that, dear reader, "is what it is!"
